There are reportedly over 400 web sites on the internet introducing women from Ukraine for love and relationship. This statistic is an obvious indicator of the popularity of Ukrainian women to western men. Americans and Europeans are seeking relationships with Ukrainian women because they perceive them as ideal companions. Are their preconceived notions truth or fantasy? As a frequent traveler to Lviv, Ukraine I would like to include my personal opinions on this very hot topic.
Foremost and above all, men claim that the women of Ukraine the most beautiful and the most attractive. Just recently US Vice President Joe Biden declared in Kiev " Ukrainian women are the most beautiful women in the world". This view is supported by a rather macho mentality which places physical beauty above all other human traits. Can a relationship be based on physical appearance alone!
There is no doubt that the Slavic people have incredibly attractive features. Genetically they are an interesting mix of Asian and European blood giving them a unique and exotic look. The high cheek bones and bright blue eyes, the grace and mannerisms of these tall and slim beauties definitely turn heads in a crowd. Just visualize the stunning good looks of Oksana Baiul, the famous world skater and the sensation that she created in America. Even Ukraine's former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko is considered a world-class beauty.
In my opinion beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Women from all nationalities have their own special charm and beauty. I believe that Women from Ukraine are perceived as more beautiful is in large part due to their dress and the care they give to their appearance. The universal dress code for contemporary women is very casually blue jeans and t-shirts. The Ukrainian woman on the other hand constantly celebrates her sexuality by wearing fancy and tight-fitting garments, high heals, makeup and jewelry. This is her common attire even if she is simply going to the market. Of course this is very appealing to men who see women as sexual creatures and this is why they perceive these women as more attractive then their American counterparts.
Some western men are disillusioned with the newly liberated and career orientated western women. Many feel their masculinity threatened by the notion of woman's lib and feel that this has made women less romantic and less traditional. The fact that women may become their work superiors and demand certain rights at home it not terrible appealing to these men. This is why they turn to the women of Ukraine in the hopes of finding a partner who believes in the role of women as supportive and even submissive to their husbands. This attitude I find distressing. All human beings are created equal and women throughout the world need to assert their freedom and equality. It is a well known fact that internet love agencies are often deal in prostitution and other activities degrading to women. The image projected on the internet ads give a clear picture of a sultry and sensual woman with deep ulterior motives.
Many men feel that Ukrainian beauties are more traditionally focused on family and relationship. I agree that the family unit is much stronger in Ukraine than in America. For example families live together and elders are not assigned to seniors' residences. The fact that women are allowed three years paid maternity leave is proof of this culture's respect for the family unit. I believe that the women all over the planet have maternal instincts and if they choose to have children can be very loving and caring regardless of race.
On the flip side of this equation, statistics show that the divorce rate in Ukraine is the highest globally. What does this say about respect for family values. Another reality is that the women in Ukraine outweigh the number of men. They see their men as either very rich and corrupt or poor and unemployed. Hence the number of women advertising on the internet. They see their men as either very rich and corrupt or poor and unemployed.
There are a number of realities that the men searching internet love in Ukraine fail to realize. Firstly, they are setting themselves up for scam and disappointment. Many of these women are in a difficult financial situation and are primarily looking for a meal ticket. Numerous are the stories of broken love and laundered bank accounts when the foreign passport is acquired by these internet women.
There is no doubt in my mind that Ukrainian women are beautiful, strong, intellectual and powerful human beings. However, I refuse to accept the fact that they hold an international monopoly and these virtues. Men seeking Ukrainian women on the "net" should take a good and long look at their priorities and reasons and realize that women are the same the world throughout. Now that the social and economic situation in Ukraine is getting brighter more and more women are deciding to build their lives at home and no longer feel the need to offer themselves to foreign men.
